Material regarding this Madison County, Va. family consists of family correspondence, bills and receipts, and business records. The earliest item, 1797-1803, is a list of fees owed John Walker, Jr. as clerk of Madison City in Orange County, Va. The correspondence is chiefly of a family nature and is that of Benjamin Cave, Belfield Cave, and his wife Cremora Jones Cave. Items of special interest are business records of Cave and Gordon and Harrison and Cave, general stores; papers regarding the estates of John Pearson and Henry Barnes; a list of subscribers to the Madison County Band in 1861 and requisitions for supplies sent to Lt. W.J. Cave, a quartermaster in the Seventh Virginia Regiment. Correspondents include: Robert A. Banks, George Carr, Mrs. Cremora Ann Conway Cave, James Doughen, John Fields, Elizabeth Glassell, Peachy R. Grattan, Robert M. Heterrick, Mrs. Harriette Jones, James Jones, John P.
